From Tripadvisor.com My husband and I stayed at Gainsborough Hotel in March 2004, and we enjoyed our stay. The room was tidy and nicely decorated, if a bit small, and the bathroom was a decent size, very clean and included a tub, not just a shower as you often find in lower-priced hotels. My only advice is that if you like to sleep late like we do, you might not want a room at the back; our room overlooked the schoolyard of the nearby Lycee Francais, and we woke up to children shouting at gym or recess or whatever. Yes, the hotel is small, but unless you stay at an American chain (like Hilton), almost every English hotel is small. My room was small by U.S. standards, but open enough to walk around, the hotel was quiet, the staff was very nice, my room was very clean, and best of all (for Europe), the bathroom had abundant hot water, good towels, and it was very clean. I would recommend staying at Gainsborough Hotel to anyone who wants a centrally located hotel in London that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. From epinions.com Gainsborough Hotel is located on the same tube line that services Heathrow airport, which means that you can inexpensively get there from the airport without changing trains. That is another plus if you are on a budget. It served my needs well, and when travelling alone and on a budget I would definitely return there. If travelling with family or in need of more space, I would recommend instead a nearby apartment hotel, which has fewer services but apartments with bedrooms and full kitchens
